Issues Within Your Cat's Mouth
Dental/Oral
Difficulty swallowing or chewing, drooling, eating on one side of the mouth, balking at the food bowl, halitosis, dropping food, apparent loss of appetite, or overall loss of health can be caused by the dental/oral disease.
Periodontal Disease "Infected Gums"
These conditions can lead to further diseases of the mouth and other body organs.
Feline Oral Resorptive Lesions (FORL)
Cats suffer from a condition where cats resorb their own teeth. As many as 75% of all cats over age 6 possess at least one FORL. As a result, your cat may not eat properly and its overall health may suffer.
Ulcers
Oral ulcers are extremely painful for any animal. Feline Calicivirus and renal failure are two prime causes of oral ulcerations.
Masses
Growths are sometimes encountered by a veterinarian examining a cat's mouth. A surgical biopsy may be recommended if your cat develops an oral mass as these are often malignant.
Foreign bodies
Foreign bodies occasionally lodge at the base of a cat's tongue.
